Springer Publishers has Reported The Eye Cancer Foundation's Sponsored Open-Access Eye Cancer Surgery Textbook to be More Popular than Expected!
At the 2014, ECF-sponsored First Eye Cancer Working Day (Curie Institute, Paris France), Drs. Finger and Santosh Honavar suggested that an open-access “how to” surgical textbook would be particularly invaluable for eye surgeons in underserved and unserved countries. This book, written by # doctors, from # countries satisfied the mission of The Eye Cancer Foundation Board. Therefore, we decided to pay for open-access publication as well as conversion to multiple formats (computer, phone, tablet). In addition, our ECF trained fellow Dr. Sonal Chaugule-Yadav, took on the role of Executive Editor.
Though published in 2019, this week we were alerted that SpringerLink Medicine eBook Collection tracked the success of our book. Note that our chapter downloads averaged 33,333 downloads per year over the last 3 years, or over 100,000 downloads over the last 3 years. Our work has been accessed “for free” by a global readership and is one of the most viewed Oncology books in the collection. The Eye Cancer Foundation thanks all the authors who volunteered their time to teach basic eye cancer surgical techniques, our editors and Dr. Finger for their outstanding contributions and thus the books great success!
