Dr. Yacoub Yousef receives the King Hussein Award for Excellence in Cancer Research!
Dr. Yousef, a Senior Fellow and of The Eye Cancer Foundation was trained by Drs. Paul T Finger and Brenda Gallie. Today, we are pleased to announce that he was awarded the King Hussein Award for Excellence in Cancer Research. This honor (in part) for his work on eye cancer staging with The American Joint Committee on Cancer’s Ophthalmic Oncology Task Force. He was also recognized for the multitude of research papers and book chapters he has published in ocular oncology. Dr. Yousef understands the need for eye specialists in unserved and underserved countries. He understands that children with eye cancer have no chance for life or vision without at least one specialist to handle their care. Since, the ECF trained Dr. Yousef, he has paid that forward by establishing the first international eye cancer training center at The King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman. In the best medical tradition, Dr. Yousef he has trained many eye cancer specialists for the surrounding countries while offering life and vision-sparing treatments for patients throughout the Middle East.

“I am so honored and proud to receive the inaugural King Hussein Award for Cancer Research (Research Project category). It was a life time celebration under the patronage of his Majesty King Abdullah II, her Majesty Queen Rania and HRH princess Ghida Talal. I have received this Award for my extensive research for understanding and management of Retinoblastoma in Jordan, where we could decrease mortality for Retinoblastoma in Jordan from 38% to 5%, and we increased the eye globe salvage rate from 4% to more than 60%. This achievement could never happen without the hard and continuous work of the Ocular Oncology team at King Hussein Cancer Center over the past 15 years.” Yacoub A.
