Congratulations to Dr. Razaq Almasry on completing his ECF sponsored Fellowship
February 2, 2023: Dr. Razaq Almasry of Iraq completed his ECF-sponsored fellowship in Ophthalmic Oncology. He trained in Amman, Jordan under prestigious preceptor and ECF doctor, Dr. Yacoub Yousef, who has been training fellows in unserved and underserved areas of the world. Dr. Yacoub Yousef had this to say about his fellow, Dr. Razaq Almasry: "Dr. Razaq Almasry from Iraq has become the country's first trained ocular oncologist after completing his training sponsored by the Eye Cancer Foundation in Amman, Jordan at the King Hussain Cancer Center under the supervision of Dr. Yacoub Yousef. Dr. Almasry has noted that many children in Iraq were dying from Retinoblastoma, and unfortunately, the only way to save their lives, almost all had to have their eyes being removed, leaving them permanently disabled. The ECF is pleased to know that, Dr. Almasry’s training will save eyes, vision and the lives of many of these children, as well as prepare him to handle the full spectrum of eye cancers in his home country's hospital. |
During his fellowship, Dr. Almasry was involved in the examination, treatment, and decision-making process for complex Retinoblastoma cases and assisted in various surgeries, including eye and vision sparing radiation plaque surgery as well as biopsy and removal of tumors. He also practiced scholarly research by writing a paper on causes of death for Retinoblastoma patients for an international journal under the guidance of Dr. Yousef. Dr. Almasry now feels confident in dealing with oncology cases, especially Retinoblastoma. He expresses gratitude to Dr. Finger and The Eye Cancer Foundation for the opportunity to receive invaluable training." We at The Eye Cancer Foundation congratulate Dr. Razaq Almasry on the completion of his fellowship, wish him success in Iraq, and look forward to hearing from him about serving the children and people of his country. |
