Meet The ECF's Development Director!
Meet our Development Director, Henry Ackermann! Over the course of the past 20 years, The Eye Cancer Foundation has worked diligently to advance eye cancer care around the world. In addition to our generous supporters, it takes a team of professionals who are well-equipped with the tools necessary to keep us moving onward in making our mission of saving sight and saving lives possible.
Development Director of The Eye Cancer Foundation, Henry J. Ackermann is headquartered in New York City. Henry brings us 25-years-experience! He will continue to review and improve our existing development operations, planning and executing our capital and major gift campaigns, training our high-level fundraising volunteers, and motivating The Eye Cancer Foundation’s Board and campaign committees. Henry is known for coordinating governance, fundraising, marketing, and public relations activities. We brought him into the foundation to significantly enhance fundraising results and our media exposure. He has also managed annual dinners, golf tournaments, and major donor receptions.
Coming from his position as National Development Director for Cooley’s Anemia Foundation, Henry has served as Chief Development Officer at Abbott House, a $50 million human services agency headquartered in Westchester County, NY. Prior to that he was Vice President of Individual Giving at Covenant House, a $150 million non-profit agency serving homeless youth in 21 cities in 6 countries. There he managed the activities of both the major gift and planned giving departments raising $6-9 million annually, with the largest single gift being $2.5 million.
Henry began his career as a high school social studies teacher but moved into social work after spending several summers counseling juvenile delinquents. He worked in various supervisory and administrative roles, before moving into the development field. Mr. Ackermann holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stonehill College.
Henry wants everyone to know, "I am impressed with the passion and generosity of those I've met at The Eye Cancer Foundation, and I am excited for what we can all do together to grow this wonderful organization. I am honored to be part of this ongoing success story."
