Congratulations to Dr. Aditya Maitray, MS
Dr. Aditya Maitray, MS, came to The New York Eye Cancer Center and completed an International Observership under Dr. Paul T. Finger!
About Dr. Aditya - Study of medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal - MS from Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore - Research-cum-clinical fellowship in Vitreo-Retina from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai - Medical Officer in the Vitreo-Retina department at Aravind Eye Hospital Madurai (2018) Experience in The New York Eye Cancer Center I am a vitreo-retina consultant at Aravind Eye Hospital, Chennai, India and I had the privilege to be a visitor at Dr. Paul Finger’s clinic at the New York Eye Cancer Center. During my observership, I found Dr Finger to be very warm, welcoming, and an excellent teacher. The walls of his clinic are studded with plaques showcasing his several innovations, patents and numerous important and inspiring contributions to ocular oncology. Dr. Finger makes his patients feel very comfortable, gives them adequate time to understand their condition, management plan, and politely addresses their concerns and queries. |
He uses big plasma screens in his clinic to display and explain the pathologies to his patients and also utilises them for teaching his fellows which I found to be a very effective method. I got to observe and learn from his very algorithmic and scientific approach while dealing with various ocular tumors. I was impressed by the outcomes of his unique slotted plaques for peripapillary melanomas and his tailored approach towards managing radiation retinopathy, giving excellent visual outcomes. It was also very exciting to witness his ongoing project with the Yttrium plaque with a light-guided localisation ring, a potentially pathbreaking innovation. He was kind enough to allow me to observe him in the Operating Room, where I witnessed his unique iris biopsy technique (FIT biopsy- Finger’s iridectomy technique).
I would also like to acknowledge the entire support staff at his clinic who all work sincerely like a good team, and are polite and caring towards all the patients and very friendly to fellows and visitors. I walk away from this experience full of inspiration and learning and I'm extremely grateful to Dr. Paul Finger for the opportunity. |
